For many years there was a show on TV called Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Every episode a crew would update and renovate the outside of the house and every room inside the house for a family in need. The show aimed to help those who had fallen on hard times by providing them with the best house they possibly could.
This idea of providing the best house possible, is one that Christians should think about all the time. In our reading today (1 Kings 6:1-38) we see Solomon spare no expense in providing the best house he could for God. This application for us is pretty straightforward: what kind of house are we providing for God? Are we using the best materials we can? Are we working to be the best we can be? Do we look for ways to become more like God expects us to be or are we allowing ourselves to fall into disrepair?
As you think about this idea of being the best house you can be for the Lord, consider that the Lord is building a house for us (John 14:2). Jesus is taking great care to prepare our room in that house, shouldn't we be doing the same for Him?
Pick two actions from the following list to work on in your life over the next week. By working on these we can actively become a better house for the Lord!
Patience Goodness Caring Trusting
Kindness Self-control Listening Courteous
Gentleness Loving Joyous Humility
