You Cannot Have Faith Without Humility

April 9, 2019

One of the most difficult expectations of God to uphold is that of humility. Admitting that we do not know everything, do not fully understand something, and do not have the full picture can be difficult for us, but it's so very necessary to our faith.

Faith is simply our trust in God and where there is no humility, or stated in the positive, where there is pride, there can be no trust. When we believe we know everything, we push God and faith in Him out. When we think we know better than God, we push faith out.

This is seen very clearly in our Bible reading for today (1 Sam. 15:1-35). In this text, Saul elevates his thoughts and plans over God's thoughts and plan when he chose to save the best servants and flocks for himself instead of destroying them as the Lord had commanded. Saul believe he knew better, and pushed faith out as a result.

There is no room for faith in the prideful heart.

If we are going to be people of faith, we have to be people of humility. We have to be willing to do what God has asked, even though it may make us uncomfortable. We have to be willing to accept what He has said on a matter, even if we do not like it. We have to admit that we do not know as well as the Almighty God. We must trust that God knows what He is doing. If we can push out our pride and submit to Him humbly, God will take care of us.

Today's QUESTION:

What is it that specifically causes us to think we know better than God does? (not just "pride", dig deeper).

Today's ACTION:

Pray for the removal of pride in your life, and the addition of humility so that faith can move in and take its proper place.
