What Are You Bringing to God?

February 20, 2019

In our devotional reading today (Lev. 1:1-17), God instructs Moses on how Israel is to worship Him. These laws on sacrifices lay out how Israel can both come to God and be forgiven of their sins. Throughout this text there are a few repeated ideas, ideas that still apply to us today:

"Without blemish" (1:3, 10) - This speaks to the quality of the offering. God desires for us to bring our best to Him.

"Offering" (1:2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 13, 14, 17) - This speaks to loss. What we bring to God will ultimately cost us. An offering isn't an offering if we are not giving something up.

"Bring" (1:2, 3, 5, 10, 14, 15) - This speaks to intention. If we want forgiveness from God we must go to Him and bring our offering before Him.

Preparation words like "lay", "arrange", and "wash" - This speaks to detail. We cannot come to God in our own way and expect Him to just accept it. We must bring our offering to God on His terms, not ours.

God expected Israel to bring their best and present it on His terms. To this day God expects the same (Rom. 12:1-2). When you come before God, what are you bringing? What is the quality of your offering? How prepared are you?

God wants your best, so present yourself to Him as best as you can.

Today's ACTION:

Take a moment right now to pray this prayer:

God I pray that I would work each day to be as without blemish as I can possibly be. I pray that I would be intentional in my living for You. I pray that I only ever bring You exactly what You deserve. I pray that I would be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You.
