God Has Forgiven You

It didn't take long for Israel to start walking away from God once they left Egypt. Think about your reaction when people wrong you. Think about the child that does what you told them not to immediately after you told them not to do it. Think about the spouse who has betrayed your trust. Think about the friend who ignored your feelings and hurt you.

Consider now how God must have felt about being betrayed by the very people He just rescued. Think about the pain and anger God must have felt and yet, as He appears to Moses, the prophet records for us these words:

"The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation."

Exodus 34:6-7

The wrong that has been done to us cannot match the wrong that we have done to God. If God can forgive us for the actions that ultimately brought about the sacrifice of His Son, how much more should we be able to forgive the actions of those who cause us momentary hurt? No matter how bad you think you are, know that we serve a God full of mercy and grace. No matter how wronged you think you are, know that we serve a mercy and grace filled God who expects us to be filled with the same mercy and grace.

Why is it sometimes difficult to extend grace to others who we believe have wronged us?

Today's ACTION:

You were probably thinking of someone who has hurt you while reading this article. Pray for that person today. Pray that you would be able to forgive them as God has forgiven you, and pray that, if they need to come to repentance, that they would turn back to God.
