It's not uncommon for me, when I have a lot on my mind, to walk into a room to get something and forget completely about what I went to grab in the first place. Forgetfulness is a problem that plagues many of us and has been an issue for people for a long time.
Not long after Israel is released from Egypt (Ex. 13:1-22) God begins to institute reminders of His deliverance. Unfortunately, it won't take long before God is forgotten (Ex. 32 for example).
In the day to day grind, it can be easy for us to forget about all the Lord has done for us. We spend so much time running around getting work done, and fulfilling scheduled obligations that we lose sight of the work Jesus put in for us.
We forget about His saving grace.
We forget about God's mercy.
We forget about the sins He has cleansed from us.
We forget about the home He has prepared for us.
Learn from the mistakes of Israel. Remember what the Lord has done for you. You will be all the more joyful for it.
In our devotional chapter today (Ex. 13:1-22), God provides two pillars to guide Israel (a cloud for the morning and fire for the evening). These pillars serve not only as guides, but as a reminder of God's presence with Israel so that they would not forget that He is with them.
Take the time each morning and each evening to pray to God, specifically that He will 1) guide you in the way you need to go and that you will 2) never forget all the good He has done for you.
