What Makes Baptism So Important?

When it comes to topics that are hotly debated in the religious world, there are few more polarizing than that of baptism. Some insist that baptism is a necessary precursor to salvation while others claim that it is nothing more than an outward symbol signifying the salvation that has already been received.

If you have attended church with us long you know that baptism is something very important to us. The reason it is so important to us is because we believe it is important to God. Here’s why:

Baptism is Where We Reenact the Gospel of Jesus (Rom. 6:3-7).

Just like Jesus died, was buried, and rose again so can we by dying to our sinful selves, burying that sin, and rising again having been cleansed by God.

Baptism is How We Call on the Lord (Acts 22:16)

It is in baptism that we cry out to God for the forgiveness of our sins. It is then that he hears our call and responds by wiping our slate clean.

Baptism Is Part of the Disciple Making Process (Matthew 28:19-20)

Jesus’ final command to His disciples is to go and make more by “baptizing” and “teaching”. It is only after the implementation of these two actions that one can become a follower of Jesus.

These are only a few reasons why we believe baptism to be so important, but these few reasons are enough to show us just how important a role baptism plays in our salvation.
