Let the Children Come to Me

June 19, 2018

Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Luke 18:15-17)

The disciples had a problem. On one side you have Jesus, a worker of miracles, the great Teacher, and the son of God on the other side you have children, some of whom are infants, incapable of really doing much of anything. Why let these people waste Jesus’ time with their children when He could be doing so much more. The disciples’ problem was that they failed to realize the significance of children in the eyes of God.

May the same never be said of us. Opportunities like camp, Vacation Bible School, and the weekly Bible classes we provide for children are some of the greatest things a church can provide. It is in these events that children are introduced to Jesus and invited to come to Him.

In some ways children aren’t just the future of the church, they are a vital part of the family now. Encourage the children you see running around the building. Show them kindness, care, and respect. Love and appreciate them “for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”
