Not Okay

We all do it:

*Handshake*

“How are you doing?”

“I’m doing okay. You?”

“I’m doing fine.”

The classic church-member exchange. Here’s the problem: we’re not all doing okay. Sometimes when we say “we’re doing okay” what we really want to say is…

“…my pregnancy has been really difficult.”

“…I’m having financial troubles and am worried about how to take care of my family.”

“…Work has been really stressful lately and I’m not sure how much longer I can take it.”

“…I’m wrapped back up into a sin I thought I had conquered, and I’m not sure I can get back out of it alone.”

“…I feel all alone.”

Understandably, none of these really make for a fun conversation, and it’s likely that these are not things that should be said when someone greets you at the church doors. They do need to be said though.

“Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Gal. 6:2). This isn’t an easy thing to do, but it’s something we must do nonetheless. There are Christians all around us that need prayers and a listening ear. Be willing to listen to why they’re not okay, and shoulder that burden with them.
