Where Are You Going?

"Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself." (Philippians 3:17-21 ESV)

In this section of Scripture we see Paul making a contrast. He makes a contrast between those who are focused on earthly things. Notice that he says they are:

1) Enemies of the cross (3:18)

2) Headed for destruction (3:19)

3) A slave to their own belly (desires; 3:19)

4) Glory in their shame (3:19)

This earthly-minded group of people is contrasted with those who are heavenly-minded. Notice what Paul says about this group:

1) They have a heavenly citizenship (3:20)

2) They await their Savior (3:20)

3) They await a new body (3:21)

In our society it's easy to get caught up in the things of the world. We can't let our own desires and worries of the world bog us down and keep us from thinking heavenward! We Christians are going to heaven. We have a great destination waiting for us, but if we focus on things of the world the only place we're headed for is destruction.

How often do you think about Heaven?
