In our Salt and Light groups this past Sunday night we discussed church leaders, what they go through, and why we need to constantly be encouraging them and praying for them.
We are commanded to “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you” (Heb. 13:17).
Everything the leadership of the church is doing, if they’re doing what they are supposed to, is in accordance with the responsibility of keeping watch over our souls. We may not always like how our leadership goes about that task, which is why the Hebrew writer adds that we need to let our leadership lead without any groaning from us.
The pressure of leading souls to heaven can be quite a lot. Take time to thank the elders this morning. Let them know you appreciate all the work they do here. Let them know that you’re praying for their success as leaders of this congregation. Let us always be looking for times to pray and opportunities to encourage and thank those that lead us.
