What it Takes to be a Hero

It’s week’s like this past one that leave me encouraged. We had a tremendous Vacation Bible School this year. 50+ children came every night to learn about what it means to be a hero of God. Throughout their classes and craft time they learned about what it means to have courage, why it’s important to listen, how trust in God can overcome any fear, and how acts of kindness can shape the world into a better place. The greatest source of learning however was not the crafts or classes. It was you. Every time you stopped to listen to a child you showed them how to be a hero of God. Thank You For Your Work on VBS

Some might think it a bit presumptuous to thank someone for an event that has yet to occur, but I know this church. I know that Monday through Thursday each night there will be plenty of volunteers. I know that we will have chaperones for each group, and more than enough cookies for every child. I know that Thursday you will not only bring a bunch of homemade ice cream, but that you will be walking around introducing yourself and having conversation with those who have come from the community. Putting the Pieces Together

Every year my family makes the trip alongside my in-laws to the sandy beaches of Destin, Florida. Sometime after we arrive, between the unloading of vehicles and divvying up of rooms, an opened jigsaw puzzle finds its way to an unclaimed table. As the week progresses so does the puzzle. Bit by bit the puzzle pile diminishes as the pieces find their partners in the crowd until every piece has made its connection and the puzzle becomes complete. In many ways the church is like that pile of puzzle pieces. Paul refers to us as “members of the body” (1 Cor. 12:12). Like puzzle pieces, each Christian represents a part of the whole and just as puzzle pieces come together to make a beautiful picture
